With the pending approach of the Palestinians to the United Nations for membership this September, J Street has just issued a policy paper which urges the continuation of serious diplomatic efforts by the United States and the international community to avert a showdown, calls on the Palestinians to defer their application, and supports the United States’ declared intention to veto the application at the Security Council. J Street also issued an open letter calling on the American Jewish community to shift the energy it is putting into defeating the Palestinian initiative at the UN into promoting the urgency of a two-state resolution to the conflict.
