40,000 Actions in Support of the Obama Administration

March 16th, 2010

The pro-Israel, pro-peace movement is stepping up strong this week, sending over 40,000 messages to the White House and Congress in support of the Obama Administration's strong leadership in the Middle East. On Monday, J Street leadership delivered over 18,000 signatures to White House officials demonstrating that large numbers of pro-Israel, pro-peace Americans agree with the Vice President when he says "sometimes only a friend can deliver the hardest truth," and urging the Administration to turn this crisis into an opportunity for progress on two states. And now we're continuing to show Congress the deep support in our community for the Administration's leadership, sending over 25,000 messages to the Hill in the campaign's first few days. Statement on Escalation of US-Israel Tensions

March 15th, 2010

The recent escalation of tension between the US and Israel - sparked by Israel's announcement regarding 1600 housing units in East Jerusalem - is a matter of serious concern to J Street and Israel's friends generally. The United States is Israel's closest ally. Their special relationship is rooted in shared interests and values and enjoys broad bipartisan support in Washington and across the country. That is all the more reason why the Obama administration's reaction to the treatment of the Vice President last week and to the timing and substance of the Israeli government's announcement was both understandable and appropriate. J Street Condemns PA's Honoring of Terrorist

March 12th, 2010

J Street strongly condemns the decision by the Palestinian Authority to honor Dalal Mughrabi, the leader of a 1978 terror attack that murdered 38 Israeli civilians, including 13 children. By promoting incitement through the glorification of terrorists and their actions, this decision harms the prospects for a two-state solution and true peace and reconciliation with Israel. A Wake Up Call in Jerusalem

March 11th, 2010

Israel’s recent announcement of 1,600 new housing units in East Jerusalem wasn't just a slap in the face to Vice President Joe Biden. It was a wake-up call to us all that business-as-usual peace processing is bringing us no closer to ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. And now it may derail or delay the proximity talks just announced by Special Envoy Mitchell. The alarm bells couldn’t be ringing more loudly, telling us that hope is fading for a future where a Jewish, democratic Israel lives side-by-side in peace and security with the state of the Palestinian people.Yet an urgency of purpose suited to the danger of the moment is missing – here in the U.S., in Israel and in the American Jewish community. The time has come for strong action, not more talk.Earlier this week, J Street delivered a petition to the White House with over 18,000 sigatures from pro-Israel, pro-peace Americans who support stronger US leadership now to ensure two states.
