J Street Statement on the Iron Dome Support Act

WASHINGTON — J Street Director of Government Affairs Dylan Williams today issued the following statement in support of the Iron Dome Support Act (S.2325 and H.R.4229): “J Street strongly supports passage of the Iron Dome Support Act. Israel’s ‘Iron Dome’ rocket defense system is essential to protecting Israeli civilians from rocket attacks from Hamas, Hezbollah, and other militant groups. Maintaining and expanding this project will help save lives and improve the quality of life of civilians, particularly in the South of Israel, who have lived under a cloud of fear of rocket attacks for too long. J Street Welcomes Clinton's Decision to Disburse Palestinian Aid

WASHINGTON — J Street applauds Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s decision to disburse $147 million in fiscal year 2011 economic support funds for the Palestinian people. Secretary Clinton released the funds over the objections of House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), whose months-long ‘hold’ had put US-funded programs critical to Israeli security and Palestinian humanitarian needs at risk. Ros-Lehtinen’s hold jeopardized accountable governance, civil society, infrastructure, and education programs benefiting the Palestinian people, even forcing “Shara'a Simsim”-- the Palestinian Sesame Street— to suspend production.
