J Street 2012 High Holiday Resources

September 5th, 2012

By Rabbi Lawrence Troster, J Street Rabbinic Director

With the coming of fall, the Jewish community turns with anticipation to the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The Yamim Noraim -- Days of Awe -- compel many of us to reflect on the ideas of accountability and repentance.

For me, it means planning family gatherings and holiday meals, speaking to colleagues about their sermon topics and whether they have finished them yet (a major area of rabbinic anxiety at this time of year) and considering my own past and future spiritual life. It is also inevitable that this year I am thinking about the U.S. elections and their implication for Israel and world peace.

With the help of the J Street Rabbinic Cabinet, we have created this High Holiday resource page.

On the page you will find:

  • A High Holiday Call to Action Letter for rabbis, cantors and rabbinical and cantorial students to sign.
  • Our High Holidays insert, with an original prayer I've prepared
  • Sermons and sermon ideas by J Street Rabbinic Cabinet rabbis.

I hope that these resources will be used by rabbis and laypeople alike to spark discussion, inspiration and deep consideration of the issues of that will face us this year.
