New Reading List from J Street’s Education Team

July 30, 2015

As the summer heats up with debate over the Iran deal, be sure to cool off with some AC, ice cream and a new book from our Recommended Summer Reading List!

As we actively work to ensure the Iran deal, here are some great books that will help you learn more about US-Iran relations, Iran’s nuclear program and Iranian culture:

Looking to delve into Israeli-Palestinian issues instead? To go with the Our Future, Our Choice initiative launched at the 2015 National Conference, we have marked books on the list that especially deal with topics surrounding the Green Line, including a book of maps, The Routledge Atlas of the Arab-Israeli Conflict by Martin Gilbert. Look for the green dots scattered throughout the reading list for other titles on settlements, occupation, and other themes related to the Green Line.

As part of our Our Future, Our Choice, we are asking Jewish institutions, including schools and camps to use maps that show the Green Line. So we’ve added sections for children’s and young adult literature. as well as a pedagogy section. Check these out if you’re eager to start talking to your children, grandchildren or students about Israel and Palestine or if you’re young at heart.

In addition to this season’s hot topics, we are excited to announce of the book edition of The Gatekeepers by Dror Moreh. The literary companion to the eye-opening documentary also promises frank observations of the inner workings of Israel’s Internal Agency and candid remarks about Israel’s security from six former heads of the Shin Bet. Coming out in August 2015, be sure to keep an eye out.

Whether you’re reading about Iran, the Green Line, or what it means to share Jerusalem from a child’s perspective, hope you’re staying cool and relaxing with friends and family!
