Rep. Dave Loebsack (D-IA)

Washington,
D.C., Jan 9 – Congressman Dave Loebsack (IA-02) released the following
statement after voting in support of H.Res. 34.

"I
would first like to extend my deepest sympathies to the families of the
innocent civilians who have lost their lives in the current conflict in Gaza
and call on both sides to do all they can to protect civilian
populations.  Today I joined my colleagues in the House of Representatives
in passing a resolution calling for an immediate and durable ceasefire to end
the current conflict in Gaza and protect innocent civilians on both
sides.  I strongly believe that going forward the United States
Administration must actively work with the international community to
revitalize negotiations to achieve a lasting peace that allows for the passage
of humanitarian aid, brings an end to arms trafficking, promotes security and
democracy, and results in the State of Israel and a democratic Palestinian
state living peacefully side by side." (January 9, 2009)
