J Street Welcomes Speaker Boehner’s Invitation to PM Netanyahu

J Street is pleased that the Speaker Boehner has announced his intention to invite Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint session of Congress during his upcoming visit to the United States in May. We are very hopeful that the Prime Minister will take this opportunity to put forward a proactive, far-reaching proposal for a resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in line with the internationally-accepted parameters for a two-state solution.

J Street at Knesset: Don’t Push Away Your Friends

J Street President Jeremy Ben-Ami and Board Chair Davidi Gilo addressed an unprecedented Knesset committee meeting convened to look into the question of whether the American organization is sufficiently “committed” to Israel. He called on the Israeli Government to accept the pro-Israel, pro-peace movement as allies or risk alienating a significant part of American Jewry. A number of current and former members of Knesset strongly defended J Street.

J Street Profoundly Disappointed by East Jerusalem Construction Announcement

The latest negotiations designed to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict hang by a thread, and the US is working tirelessly to find a way to keep hope for a diplomatic two-state resolution to the conflict alive. The news is even more of a disappointment as Prime Minister Netanyahu is in the US this week, participating in important discussions with Vice President Biden and other American officials over how to resume peace talks and how to address the Iranian nuclear program.

Statement on Proposed Israeli Loyalty Oath

J Street opposes the proposal Israel’s Government is considering to amend the oath that non-Jewish applicants must take to acquire Israeli citizenship. We join with these and other leading Israelis across the political spectrum in calling on the Government of Israel to pull back from this proposal which runs counter not just to the values enshrined in the country’s Declaration of Independence, but puts at risk the very democratic nature of the state itself.
