New Hampshire

NH-01

The race: New Hampshire’s 1st congressional district (NH-01) covers the southeastern portion of the state. JStreetPAC endorsee Rep. Carol Shea Porter won this swing-seat by a narrow one-point margin in 2016 after previously serving in this seat from 2007-2011 and 2013-2015. In October 2017, Rep. Shea Porter announced she would not seek re-election in 2018, launching a multi-way Democratic primary to succeed her. In addition to a crowded Democratic primary, there will be a heated general election for this seat, which has swung between Democratic and Republican control in recent cycles

The candidate: Chris Pappas is the Democratic nominee running to replace retiring Rep. and JStreetPAC endorsee Carol Shea Porter. Pappas is a longtime elected official in New Hampshire state politics, and he secured the nomination after emerging from a highly contested 11-way primary with 42% of the vote. He first won election as a state Representative in 2002 and served two terms in that role. He was subsequently elected to two terms as the Hillsborough County Treasurer, and since 2013, Pappas has served on the New Hampshire Executive Council.
