News broke last week that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had offered right-wing firebrand Avigdor Lieberman, head of the ultranationalist Yisrael Beiteynu party, a place in his coalition as defense minister. This offer came in the wake of weeks of coalition talks and a public fight between Netanyahu and former defense minister, Moshe Ya’alon.
Last Friday, J Street hosted a special conference call with Israeli journalist Chemi Shalev of Ha’aretz and our President, Jeremy Ben-Ami, to talk about the move’s implications. They discussed what Israel’s recent political changes mean for Netanyahu, the future of the Israeli left and more.
