Gili Getz will perform “The Forbidden Conversation” on the evening of January 18, 2018, at Main Line Reform Temple, 410 Montgomery Avenue, Wynnewood, PA (610-649-7800). This event is free and is co-sponsored by J Street and the New Israel Fund.
Gili is a seasoned performer who has written an original one-act play depicting the difficulty of discussing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The play lasts 35 minutes, followed by a short talk in which Gili discusses his experience in creating and performing the play. He follows this with a conversation about the culture of disagreement inherent in the American Jewish community. This controversial conflict strikes at the heart of American Jews and infiltrates family gatherings and conversations, often in hurtful and destructive ways. The Forbidden Conversation will illustrate and clarify the deeper concerns and emotions this controversy evokes. It will offer other possibilities and ways of having a difficult conversation without necessarily agreeing or resolving this intractable 50-year argument. This participatory event will be an excellent follow-up to those who attended “Wrestling Jerusalem,” which was recently performed in Philadelphia.
