2023 J Street Philadelphia Tzedek v’Shalom Award Recipient

Phyllis Snyder leads the Philadelphia chapter of J Street, serves on J Street’s Board of Directors, and served as co-chair of the Regional Advisory Committee for three years. She worked for over forty years for nonprofits focused on linking learning and work to help adults succeed in the workforce, most recently as Vice President of CAEL (Council for Adult and Experiential Learning). A long time member of Main Line Reform Temple Beth Elohim, she served as an officer and board member.
Snyder is a graduate of Smith College and holds masters degrees from Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania. She lives in Merion, PA with her husband Peter, an endocrinologist at the University of Pennsylvania. They have two daughters and three grandchildren.
About the Featured Speakers

Ben Rhodes is a leading voice on politics and foreign affairs with over 15 years of working experience in Washington. Prior to joining the Obama administration as a speechwriter and later as the deputy national security advisor, Rhodes worked as special assistant to Lee Hamilton at the Wilson Center, where he helped draft the Iraq Study Group report and the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. He co-authored, with Lee Hamilton and Tom Kean, the book Without Precedent: The Inside Story of the 9/11 Commission. After the Obama presidency, he has worked as a writer and political commentator and he continues to be senior advisor to Barack Obama. In his function as co-chair of National Security Action with Jake Sullivan, they promote progressive foreign policy as an alternative to the Trump administration’s approach. In addition, he regularly contributes to networks such as NBC News and MSNBC as a political commentator and co-hosts the foreign policy podcast Pod Save the World.

Jeremy Ben-Ami is the President of J Street with a background of deep experience in American politics and government and a passionate commitment to the state of Israel. His political background includes serving mid-1990s as the Deputy Domestic Policy Advisor in the White House to President Bill Clinton and working on seven Presidential and numerous state and local campaigns. He was Howard Dean’s National Policy Director in 2004 and helped manage a Mayoral campaign in New York City in 2001. He has been recognized for his leadership including being named one of 50 “People of the Decade” by Ha’aretz, the influential Israeli daily newspaper, and by the Jerusalem Post, which included him in its list of the 50 Most Influential Jews in the world.
