Friedman’s hearing today before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee did nothing to change the obvious: He is absolutely the wrong choice to serve as US Ambassador to Israel. Friedman gave many restrained and careful answers to difficult questions from Senators, and expressed regret for many of his past statements and writings. But he cannot change or walk back the deeply held ideological convictions he has held and the actions that he has taken over the course of decades. J Street continues to strongly urge Senators to reject Friedman’s confirmation, and to insist that President Trump put forward a new nominee who is suitable to hold such an important position as a representative of our country.
