Israel hands over remains of 91 Palestinian militants in effort to renew peace talks

June 2, 2012

J Street welcomes news that the Israeli government has returned the remains of 91 militants who were killed in perpetrating attacks on Israel. While a deeply humane gesture, this is, no doubt, difficult for the many Israelis whose lives were affected by these terrorist attacks.

The Israeli government spokesperson said the move was intended as a “confidence-building measure” aimed at reviving attempts to resolve the conflict. We are encouraged by both this action and the intentions behind it and hope it is followed by other pragmatic and positive steps on both sides that advance the prospects for achieving a two-state solution.
