J Street Horrified by Antisemitic Attack on Orthodox Jewish Community in Monsey, NY

December 29, 2019

J Street is horrified by the antisemitic attack that took place in Monsey, NY last night, in which five people were stabbed and at least one seriously wounded while celebrating Hanukkah at the home of Rabbi Chaim L. Rottenberg.

This attack, which NY’s governor has described as an act of “domestic terrorism,” is the latest in a spate of violent attacks that have targeted American Jews across the country. Members of the Orthodox Jewish community in particular have been victimized by a disturbing rise in antisemitic violence in the greater NY area.

We send the victims of this attack our best wishes for a speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with them and their families, with the Jewish community of Monsey and with Jewish communities across the country who fear that they too could be targeted by this surge of hate. We remain committed to doing all that we can to help confront, combat and defeat antisemitism in all its forms.
