J Street mourns the passing of former Ambassador Martin Indyk, a giant in US efforts to negotiate a lasting peace for Israelis and Palestinians.

“We are deeply saddened that we’ve lost one of the most important and courageous voices for peace in the Middle East,” said J Street President Jeremy Ben-Ami. “Ambassador Indyk was an invaluable source of inspiration, counsel and advice for J Street over the years. It is tragic that he won’t be able to see his dream for peace realized, but we will be doing everything in our power – and in his memory – to turn our shared vision into a reality for millions of people across the Middle East,” Ben-Ami added.

Ambassador Indyk spent decades pushing for peace in the Middle East. He served as President Obama’s special envoy for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations in 2013 and 2014 and was the US ambassador to Israel during the Clinton Administration, among many other diplomatic and national security roles.

“President Biden and Vice President Harris can honor his life and legacy today by continuing to press Prime Minister Netanyahu to commit to a deal that ends the devastating war in Gaza and returns the hostages to their families,” Ben-Ami added.
