J Street Opposes MLA Resolution Singling out Israel

January 24, 2014

J Street opposes a resolution recently advanced by the Modern Language Association to single out Israel for alleged lack of academic freedom and urges the MLA’s executive council to reject it when it comes to a vote.

The MLA should be commended for not following the American Studies Association in recommending an outright boycott. Still, this resolution, if approved, would also encourage future efforts to single out Israel.

Such actions will not help improve the lives of Palestinians, nor will they help end the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Particularly now, as the US works to advance a serious diplomatic initiative to resolve the conflict, the interests of peace and justice would best be served by supporting solutions that address the concerns of both peoples and tangibly contribute to the cause of two states.
