J Street Welcomes Bipartisan Senate Resolution Condemning Anti-Semitism

May 7, 2019

J Street welcomes a new bipartisan Senate resolution, introduced by Sens. Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Ted Cruz (R-TX), which strongly condemns anti-Semitism and commits to combating it in all of its forms.

At a time when the scourge of xenophobic ethno-nationalism poses a massive threat to the Jewish community and other vulnerable minorities in our country, it is vital that lawmakers and elected officials do everything in their power to clearly identify, condemn and defeat such hatred — and to hold accountable those who incite it.

The rise of anti-Semitism and xenophobia has taken a deadly toll. As Senator Kaine noted in his statement announcing this resolution, his home state of Virginia has seen “white supremacists terrorizing — and even murdering — people in Charlottesville while chanting anti-Semitic slogans lifted from Nazi rallies and a President unwilling to forcefully condemn such an atrocity.” And over the past six months, far-right extremists motivated by anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant conspiracy theories have murdered Jews at synagogues in Pittsburgh and in Poway, California.

We urge Senators to support this resolution and to take steps to counter the growing threats of anti-Semitism and white supremacism.
