Rabbi John Rosove To Become J Street Rabbinic Cabinet National Co-Chair

September 25, 2012

J Street announced today that Rabbi John Rosove, Senior Rabbi of Temple Israel in Los Angeles, will become the new national co-chair of the J Street Rabbinic Cabinet.

“I am so pleased to welcome John to the position,” said J Street Rabbinic Director Rabbi Lawrence Troster. “He has an unshakable commitment to the Jewish community and to Israel, and is a vocal advocate for peace in his congregation.”

Rosove will join National Co-Chair Rabbi John Friedman, and replace Rabbi Julie Saxe-Taller, who has led the Cabinet as national co-chair since J Street’s founding.

Rosove has been involved with J Street for the past two years, and sits on the Rabbinic Cabinet’s Executive Council.

He joined J Street at the urging of his son Daniel, who was then an intern in Washington, DC and now works at J Street as leadership outreach associate and associate regional political director for the Mid-Atlantic.

“Daniel’s passion for J Street’s mission matches my own because we both know that there is no alternative to a negotiated two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict if justice is to be served, Israel’s security is to be maintained, and Israel is to remain both Jewish and democratic,” said Rosove.

A native of Los Angeles, Rosove has served as Senior Rabbi at Temple Israel since 1988. He considers himself a progressive Reform Zionist, and sits on the board of the American Friends of the Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism and the Advisory Committee of the Daniel Center of Tel Aviv.

He was the 2002 recipient of the World Union for Progressive Judaism International Humanitarian Award and has received special commendation from the State of Israel Bonds.
