The J Street Education Fund (JSEF) is a registered 501(c)(3) organization that educates, organizes and mobilizes pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy Americans behind US government policies that advance democratic values, and support Israel’s future as a democratic homeland for the Jewish people.

Donor-Advised Fund FAQs

What is a Donor-Advised Fund?

A donor-advised fund (DAF) acts as a charitable giving account for you or your family that is established and administered through a community foundation, financial institution or other charitable organization. You can contribute an array of assets including cash, stock, mutual funds and more to a DAF and can realize tax benefits in the same year contributions are made.

Donors can recommend grants from their DAF to the charitable organizations of their choice at any time.

What is the benefit of a Donor-Advised Fund?

Simplified and advantageous tax benefits: By using a donor-advised fund, you’re able to make one gift to your DAF and have only one tax receipt come tax time while receiving a tax benefit in the same year the gift is made to the fund. You can then use your DAF to donate to any 501(c)(3) public charity operating anywhere in the world.

Streamlined and flexible giving: By centralizing your charitable giving, you can manage the breadth of your giving from one convenient account. A DAF provides a secure place to contribute your assets when it’s financially advantageous while granting ample flexibility in timing as you decide which organizations to support.

The Legacy of Peace Society honors those who have made a planned gift to the J Street Education Fund to promote a strong, enduring American voice advocating for peace between Israel and its neighbors and a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

J Street recognizes that the work of protecting Israel’s future as a Jewish and democratic state will continue into future generations and even with a two-state solution, J Street will be needed to continue advocating for pro-diplomacy policies in the Middle East. By choosing to support J Street with a Legacy of Peace gift, you are ensuring that the work you have supported throughout your life to secure a future for Israel and its neighbors grounded in peace and justice will be carried on.

Legacy of Peace Society members will be honored in J Street publications either by name or anonymously according to the donor’s wishes. Members of the Legacy of Peace Society will receive all the benefits of our National Leadership Circle, including invitations to join our Annual Leadership Summit, monthly briefing calls with international experts and J Street staff, regular contact and consultation with J Street staff, and special recognition in J Street’s annual reports.

Benefits of Planned Giving

Planned gifts have many benefits both for the donor and for J Street. They have no immediate impact on your finances and ensure that you are still in control of your assets during your lifetime. Planned gifts to nonprofits are tax deductible, meaning that they can save your estate money and enable your heirs to receive a higher percentage of your inheritance. Finally, a planned gift may allow you to make a larger gift than you could have made during your lifetime. Planned gifts are a great way to show your support for J Street’s work without investing a large amount up front.

Many employers will financially match the charitable contributions made by their employees. Matching gift programs allow you to double your impact while contributing to charitable organizations at a level that is financially comfortable for you.

Here’s How it Works:

1) Make a tax-deductible donation to the J Street Education Fund.

2) Check with your employer to see if they have a matching gift program.

3) Submit a request for a gift match through your employer. This is normally a quick and easy process!

4) If approved, your employer will match your donation. Employers usually match donations at a 1:1 ratio but some will match at a 2:1, 3:1 or even 4:1 ratio.

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a powerful and tax-efficient way for individuals aged 70½ or older to support the J Street Education Fund through your Individual Retirement Account (IRA). By sending funds directly from your IRA to the J Street Education Fund, you are able to support our mission without the distribution counting as taxable income.

Why Choose a QCD?

Simplified and Advantageous Tax Benefits: QCDs allow eligible donors to meet their Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) while excluding the donated amount from their taxable income, providing potential tax advantages.

Simplicity and Ease: QCDs offer a straightforward giving process, making it simple for donors to support the J Street Education Fund while fulfilling their charitable goals.

How to Make a Contribution Through Your QCD:

1. Contact Your IRA Administrator: Request a distribution to be made directly to the J Street Education Fund (JSEF) . Ensure the payment is correctly attributed as a QCD to qualify for the tax benefits.
2. Notify Us: Inform J Street staff of your QCD donation. Please provide staff with the name of the financial institution that will be issuing the check and the contribution amount to ensure proper acknowledgment and gratitude for your generous support.

Limitations to Consider:

Age Requirement: Donors must be aged 70½ or older to be eligible for QCDs.

Annual Cap: The maximum amount eligible for QCDs in a tax year is $105,000 per individual. Married couples can each give up to $105,000 per year from their IRA if they each meet the age requirement above.

Eligible Accounts: Only funds from Traditional IRAs and Roth IRAs (under specific circumstances) are eligible for QCDs. Other retirement plans such as 401(k) or 403(b) do not qualify for QCDs.
