Washington, DC – J Street Action Fund, the independent expenditure arm of the leading pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy group J Street, announced today a six-figure ad campaign in support of California State Senator Dr. Aisha Wahab in the CA-14 special election.
This campaign is designed to counter the millions in dark money Super PAC spending flooding in to support Melissa Hernandez in the final weeks of the special election campaign.
The ad focuses on Aisha Wahab’s record of fighting to make housing more affordable for renters and expanding access to homeownership. It can be viewed on J Street’s YouTube channel here.
In the weeks leading up to the August 18 election, AIPAC and other dark money super PACs have spent millions of dollars boosting Melissa Hernandez and attacking Aisha Wahab’s record of service to her constituents.
Aisha Wahab is an Afghan-American and the first Muslim elected to the California State Senate. In September 2025, she introduced a resolution calling for an end to the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and the immediate release of all hostages. She is exactly the kind of compassionate leader constituents of the 14th District should have in Congress.
“This is once again a cynical attempt by AIPAC to defeat a candidate who won’t rubber-stamp their agenda,” said J Street’s Vice President of Political and Digital Strategy, Tali deGroot. “AIPAC’s super PAC has failed time and again this cycle, and we expect this latest attempt to take Republican billionaire dollars and buy a Democratic primary to fail as well. Voters in the 14th deserve better, and they deserve a Member of Congress who will bring the kind of clear-eyed, nuanced and compassionate leadership that Dr. Wahab has shown throughout her career.
The J Street Action Fund was created in 2022 to help counter harmful right-wing efforts to use Republican billionaire money to drive a wedge in Democratic primaries. JSAF is part of the organization’s larger effort to demonstrate that candidates who adopt principled positions on Israel/Palestine that line up with the views of the majority of American Jews can expect significant support.
