J Street Condemns Antisemitic Terror Attack in Australia

December 14, 2025

Washington, DC – In response to the deadly antisemitic terror attack targeting Jews celebrating the first night of Hanukkah in Sydney, Australia, J Street National Director of Communal Relations Sam Berkman released the following statement:

“We are horrified and heartbroken by the antisemitic terror attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney, where Jews celebrating the first night of Hanukkah were targeted in an act of unspeakable violence. Our hearts are with the families of those killed, the many injured and all who witnessed this atrocity.

Targeting this joyous religious celebration is not only an attack on Jews, but an assault on the fundamental values of safety, dignity and freedom of religious expression. This tragedy is a devastating reminder that antisemitism is a global threat, and that extremism and hate-fueled violence endanger communities everywhere.

We stand in solidarity with those mourning and demanding accountability. Leaders and communities must respond with moral clarity – rejecting antisemitism and all forms of hate and strengthening protections for vulnerable communities.”
