J Street Proudly Endorses Kamala Harris for President

July 22, 2024

J Street was proud to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris on the Biden-Harris ticket in 2020 and 2024, and we’re excited to endorse her historic candidacy for president today.

“We’re thrilled to endorse Kamala Harris. She has what it takes to defeat Trump and defend our democracy. We know she’ll be a fighter for our community, our values and our priorities in the Oval Office,” said J Street President Jeremy Ben-Ami. “She has the experience. She has the grit. She’s ready to lead. We’re all in.”

“Kamala Harris has been a powerful advocate for J Street’s values in the White House, from the fight against antisemitism to the need for a nuanced, balanced approach on Israel-Palestine,” Ben-Ami said. “She’s been a steadfast supporter of hostage families and Israel’s security, while also being a leading voice for the protection of Palestinian civilians and the need to secure an urgent ceasefire.”

J Street is already taking donations for the Harris campaign via its political arm, JStreetPAC.

In the Senate and in the White House, Kamala Harris has been a close and true friend of both the Jewish American community and of Israel. Along with her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, Harris has taken a leading role in engaging with Jewish Americans and advancing the Administration’s National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism.

On Israel-Palestine, her rejection of a “binary” approach and appreciation of what she has referred to as “the nuances and the context and the complexity” closely aligns with J Street. She has been a strong and consistent supporter of a two-state solution that delivers true safety, freedom and self-determination to both Israelis and Palestinians.

As Vice President, Harris has been clear on the Israeli government’s right to defend its people in the wake of the October 7 attacks. She has met with rescued hostages and their families and raised awareness of the sexual and gender-based violence on October 7.

At the same time, she has been a powerful voice in the administration calling for greater protection of Palestinian civilians, speaking out about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza – particularly its impact on women and girls – and pressing for an urgent ceasefire that frees the hostages and ends the devastation.

On the campaign trail and in the Oval Office, we know she’ll continue the fight for the many issues which matter to our community: From abortion rights to LGBT+ freedoms; from rallying the world to combat climate change to standing up against Putin in Ukraine; from strengthening the foundations of our democracy to leading the nation with a politics of unity, purpose and optimism.

As Vice President Harris said: “Together, we will fight. And together, we will win.”
