Washington, DC – In response to the Department of Justice’s indictment of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), J Street President Jeremy Ben-Ami issued the following statement:
“J Street joins the growing chorus sounding the alarm over the Trump Administration’s decision to indict the Southern Poverty Law Center – a leading force in this country tracking hate, exposing extremism and helping keep vulnerable communities, including American Jews, safe.
This action is part of a broader and dangerous pattern of targeting civil society groups and undermining the institutions working to prevent the very hate and division this administration too often fuels.
At a time of rising antisemitism and extremism, going after organizations on the frontlines of this fight endangers Americans.
We stand with SPLC and our partners in this work. We will not be intimidated, and we will double down on defending democracy, confronting hate and building a safer and more just society for all.”
