Washington DC – Responding to the Saturday night arson attack targeted at Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, J Street President Jeremy Ben-Ami released the following statement:
“J Street was shocked by the terrifying arson attack on Governor Josh Shapiro and his family over Passover. We are grateful that the Governor, his wife and their children were able to evacuate safely, narrowly avoiding a devastating tragedy.
We also acknowledge that the timing of this attack on a prominent Jewish leader – just after he and his family finished celebrating their seder meal – has shaken many in our community, particularly in Pennsylvania where antisemitic, politically motivated violence has been painfully real in recent years.
Our country is facing a growing threat of violence and extremism whipped up by irresponsible leaders and commentators. We cannot continue down this path. All responsible leaders must stand united in rejecting the toxic politics of conspiracy theories and intimidation that continue to radicalize individuals and endanger our communities.”
