We are heartbroken by the deadly terror attack against a checkpoint in East Jerusalem last night, in which 18-year-old IDF soldier Sgt. Noa Lazar was tragically killed, and two members of the Israeli border police along with a security guard were wounded.
At this terrible time, our thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones, as we hope for a swift recovery of the wounded. May Sgt. Lazar’s memory be for a blessing.
We remain extremely concerned by the escalation in violence throughout the West Bank and East Jerusalem in recent weeks, which has evidenced a dangerous deterioration of an unsustainable status quo. While working to confront terrorists and prevent further acts of terror, urgent steps must be taken by all responsible leaders to reduce tensions and prevent further violence and suffering. A new path, away from the abyss and toward diplomacy and peace, must be pursued.
