Senator Kerry speaks at Brookings Institution

March 4, 2009

J Street applauds Senator John Kerry’s (D-MA) remarks today at the Brookings Institution on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, following his trip to the region last month.

The Senator’s remarks are yet another indication of the growing consensus among political leadership in the United States that a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is in both America’s and Israel’s interests, and achieving it will require bold, vigorous, and sustained American leadership.

Senator Kerry’s remarks, combined with Rep. Gary Ackerman’s recent statement to the Middle East Subcommittee on Foreign Affairs in the U.S. House and Secretary Clinton’s public statements during her ongoing trip to the region, are welcome news of the fresh political wind blowing in the United States when it comes to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

J Street and the pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy community stand ready to help provide the political support to do what is necessary for the national security interests of the United States and to preserve Israel’s future as a democratic, Jewish homeland.
