Horowitz Ad Demeans Memory of Holocaust Dead, Degrades Jewish Community Conversation

April 26, 2012

On Tuesday— the eve of Yom HaZikaron, Israel’s Day of Remembrance— J Street was stunned and appalled by the advertisement that was placed in the New York Times by the David Horowitz Freedom Center comparing supporters of using boycotts, divestment, and sanctions against Israel to agents of the Holocaust.

Such a gross misrepresentation of the events leading to the Holocaust demeans and exploits the memory of those murdered and is beyond the pale of respectful and responsible discourse. J Street calls on the Jewish community to speak out and unequivocally denounce the ad and its content.

We must be clear: the issue at hand here is not about the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement or one’s politics on Israel, but about what kind of Jewish community we aspire to be.
