J Street Endorses New Congressional Effort to Combat Antisemitism

December 18, 2025

Washington, DC – In response to Representatives Nadler, DeLauro, Balint and Frost introducing the Antisemitism Response and Prevention Act (ARPA), J Street President Jeremy Ben-Ami issued the following statement:

“The horrific attack in Bondi Beach on the first night of Hanukkah is a devastating reminder of the urgent need to combat the alarming rise of antisemitism in our country and across the world. The comprehensive national strategy outlined in this bill provides a strong framework for that effort. Funding protections for religious buildings, supporting civil rights for students and appointing a national coordinator will be critical to confronting this crisis.

It is also heartening to see legislation that is clear-eyed in its desire to meaningfully distinguish between genuine antisemitism and criticism of the policies of the Israeli government. The ARPA would provide resources for programs that protect civil rights and help prevent hate crimes, rather than cracking down on the institutions that have formed the backbone of the Jewish American experience, including immigration and higher education.

If passed, this legislation would safeguard American Jews by protecting the democratic pillars that have allowed Jewish life to flourish in this country. Our safety is inextricably linked to defending democratic freedoms. The Antisemitism Response and Prevention Act advances both goals, and we urge Members of Congress to support it.”
