J Street Executive Director Jeremy Ben-Ami released the following statement following a flurry of right-wing attacks on President Obama’s Mideast policy:
The politicians and Jewish communal leaders attacking President Obama’s Middle East policy these past few days have made a glaring omission: their failure to acknowledge the strategic importance of a two-state solution to Israel and the threat that the unsustainable status quo poses to Israel’s future as a Jewish, democratic home. The current Israeli Defense Minister, Ehud Barak, calls the effort to achieve a two-state solution the single greatest challenge facing Israel today. The failure of those on the attack, such as Eric Cantor and Ron Lauder, to mention the need to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is both telling and disappointing. J Street stands with President Obama as he leads Israelis and Palestinians towards a better, secure, and peaceful future through a two-state solution.
