STATEMENT BY J STREET COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR JESSICA ROSENBLUM ON PLANNED VISIT BY PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE MITT ROMNEY TO ISRAEL:

“J Street is very pleased that presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is planning to visit Israel this summer. Then-candidate Barack Obama visited Israel as well in 2008, and J Street has urged him to visit again as President.

This visit to Israel will provide Governor Romney with an important opportunity to see the challenges facing Israel and the region firsthand. He’ll have the opportunity as well to flesh out how he intends to advance American interests in the region and the long-term strategic relationship between the United States and Israel.

J Street is very concerned by the tremendous amount of financial support flowing into the Romney campaign and into Super PACs supporting it from individuals like Sheldon Adelson and Irving Moskowitz who adamantly oppose a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Americans deserve to hear before the election from Governor Romney if his vision for American policy is in line with the bipartisan approach of the last several Presidents who sought a diplomatic resolution to the conflict or with the views of some of his most right-wing funders who have opposed such a resolution.

We look forward to hearing what he has to say.”
