Washington

WA-03

The district: Washington’s 3rd Congressional District covers the southwestern portion of the state and has been represented by Republican Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler since 2011. Prior to Rep. Herrera Beutler winning the seat, a Democrat represented the district. In the August primary, Democratic turnout nearly matched Republican turnout in the state’s top-two primary in this district, indicating that the seat is in play for the general election.

Our Candidate: Carolyn Long is a Democrat running to represent Washington’s 3rd Congressional District (WA-03). Long is a professor at the School of Politics, Philosophy and Public Affairs at Washington State University-Vancouver, a position she has held since 1995.

WA-08

The district: In 2017, Rep. Dave Reichert (R) announced that he would retire at the end of his current term rather than seek re-election in 2018. In 2016, the district supported Secretary Clinton by a 3-point margin, setting the district up for a competitive race in 2018. Following a highly contested top-two primary in August, Schrier beat out two other Democrats to secure a place on the November ballot. She will face Republican Dino Rossi, who formerly served in the Washington State Senate and has run unsuccessfully for several other offices in the state.

Our Candidate: Dr. Kim Schrier is a Democrat running in the open seat contest in Washington’s 8th Congressional District (WA-08). Schrier is a pediatrician, and if elected, she will be the only female medical doctor in Congress.
