House Resolution 238 Promotes Two-State Solution

May 30, 2013

J Street applauds the introduction of House Resolution 238 (H.Res.238) in support of United States efforts to promote Israeli-Palestinian peace.

“This is a welcome, common sense statement of principles recognizing the challenges, and affirming the critical importance of, a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” said J Street Director of Government Affairs Dylan Williams of the resolution sponsored by Reps. Barbara Lee (D-CA), Hank Johnson (D-GA), Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), George Miller (D-CA), and John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI). “Congress must do its part to promote the only solution to the conflict that can guarantee Israel’s survival as a Jewish, democratic homeland. Legislation like this resolution sends a clear signal that Congress stands with the majorities of American Jews, Israelis and Palestinians who support a two-state solution.”

The resolution commends the Obama Administration’s commitment to Israel’s survival and security, as well as the administration’s moves to initiate a new diplomatic effort to achieve a two-state solution. The legislation also calls upon the parties to the conflict and the international community to take concrete steps to bolster the prospects for peace, including by combating anti-Israel terror and efforts to deny the deep historical, cultural, and spiritual connection of the Jewish people to Israel.

J Street is encouraging Members of Congress to cosponsor the legislation.
