Before joining J Street, Thanh Tran founded Validus Consulting LLC in Bethesda, MD, where he served as Managing Partner. Thanh holds an MBA with a concentration in Finance and Management from the University of Virginia and a BA from Boston College, where he triple-majored in Economics, Mathematics, and Philosophy. Additionally, he pursued studies in banking, finance, economics, and applied mathematics at University College in London.

At Validus Consulting since 2022, Thanh led a team offering financial and operational consulting services to non-profit organizations and small businesses, specializing in accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, investments, and risk management. Prior to this, he spent a decade as Vice President & Chief Financial Officer at the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation in Washington, DC. There, he managed the organization’s finances, led a successful merger, and contributed to its operations. Thanh also has extensive experience in investment management, venture capital, and private equity, having served as Senior Vice President at Alliance Bernstein Capital Management from 1996 to 2002 and as Founding Partner at Revenue Traction Venture Capital from 2003 to 2005.
