We are pleased to announce that Brad Gordon is this year’s recipient of J Street’s Tzedek v’Shalom award. Brad has been an active member of J Street beginning in 2012 with joining the National Finance Committee and serving as District Advocacy Coordinator for Illinois’ Ninth Congressional District. In 2017, he participated in a J Street Congressional Delegation trip to Israel and the West Bank as part of J Street’s work on educating leaders and members of Congress on the issues on the ground in the Middle East.

In 2007, Brad became President of MAF Companies, a multi-carrier brokerage general life insurance agency, where he has worked since 1993, starting as Vice President of Sales. He is also very active in his synagogue, Temple Sholom where he is on the social justice core team as well as spearheading blood drives with Vitalant Blood Services. He until recently served on the National Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies Membership committee and its Charitable Foundation board, assisting in the creation of an endowment fund. He remains an active contributor to NAILBA. Brad and his wife Jill also run a family foundation. He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a BS degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He and his wife reside in Chicago and have two daughters, Ellen and Tory, plus Joselyne, an unofficially adopted daughter from Rwanda.

Keynote Speaker:

Thomas L. Friedman

This year’s keynote speaker will be Thomas L. Friedman, New York Times foreign affairs columnist and Middle East expert.

Friedman is the recipient of three Pulitzer Prizes and the author of seven best-selling books: From Beirut to JerusalemThe Lexus and the Olive TreeLongitudes and AttitudesThe World Is FlatHot, Flat, and Crowded; That Used to Be Us, which he co-wrote with Michael Mandelbaum and Thank you For Being Late: An Optimist’s Guide to Thriving in the Age of Accelerations, which was updated and released in 2017.

Friedman’s foreign affairs column in The New York Times, which he has written since 1995, reports on US domestic politics and foreign policy, Middle East conflicts, international economics, environment, biodiversity and energy. He has been with The New York Times since 1981.
