2019 J Street Los Angeles Annual Reception

Featuring Ambassador Wendy Sherman
and J Street President Jeremy Ben-Ami
Sunday, December 15 | 2pm

An event to support the J Street Education Fund, a 501(c)3 Organization.

In a time of political turmoil and threats to our values in Israel and the US, J Street gives voice to the American Jewish majority and fights for pro-Israel, diplomacy-first policies in Washington and in communities across the country. From opposing the demolition of Palestinian villages and annexation in the West Bank; to helping shape the 2020 presidential and congressional elections; to supporting immigrants’ rights here at home, J Street is making a major impact in the fight for political change in 2019 and beyond.

On December 15, please join Ambassador Wendy Sherman, who led the US negotiating team that reached the landmark Iran nuclear agreement in 2015, and J Street President Jeremy Ben-Ami for an important conversation evaluating the changes in our political landscape — and what they mean for US foreign policy in the Middle East, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and our country.

Ambassador Wendy R. Sherman is a professor of the practice of public leadership and director of the Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School. In addition, she is a Senior Fellow at the School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. Ambassador Sherman is also a Senior Advisor at Albright Stonebridge Group and former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs. She serves on the boards of the International Crisis Group and the Atlantic Council and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Aspen Strategy Group and American Academy of Diplomacy. Ambassador Sherman led the US negotiating team that reached agreement on a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action between the P5+1, the European Union and Iran, for which, among other diplomatic accomplishments, she was awarded the National Security Medal by President Barack Obama. Ambassador Sherman is the author of Not for the Faint of Heart: Lessons in Courage, Power and Persistence, published September 2018.

As the founder and President of J Street, Jeremy Ben-Ami brings both deep experience in American politics and government and a passionate commitment to the state of Israel to the role. Ben-Ami’s family connection to Israel goes back 130 years to the first aliyah when his great-grandparents were among the first settlers in Petah Tikva. His grandparents were one of the founding families of Tel Aviv, and his father was an activist and leader in the Irgun, working for Israel’s independence and on the rescue of European Jews before and during World War II.
