Today, J Street Executive Director Jeremy Ben-Ami released the following statement regarding the new For the Sake of Zion initiative:
J Street applauds the American Jewish leaders who have launched a new effort, called For the Sake of Zion, to demonstrate support for ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a two-state solution. This new effort is part of a growing movement among supporters of Israel in the United States and around the world to stand up for Israel’s future as a Jewish, democratic home. These movements recognize that urgent action is needed now with the window closing on the viability of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The founding signers of For the Sake of Zion are leaders in all walks of American Jewish life — educators, academics, Rabbis, and teachers. All have deep personal connections to the State of Israel, have rallied for its defense in the diaspora, and view President Obama’s leadership in the region as an opportunity to secure Israel’s future for the long term. We urge other leaders in our community to support efforts to pursue a two-state resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict without delay. We are proud to stand with For the Sake of Zion and wish them well in their critical efforts.
