J Street Comments on Tzipi Livni’s resignation from the Knesset

May 1, 2012

Throughout her 13 years in government, Tzipi Livni has defined the ideal of public service in Israel, pursuing her vision of the best interests of Israel with passion, dignity and integrity.

On the issues with which J Street is most engaged, Livni has offered principled and unwavering support for a two-state solution as a matter “vital for Israel’s interests,” calling it the “only way” to maintain a state that is both Jewish and democratic. As she warned in a speech at the AIPAC Policy Conference in 2011: “ Inaction is not option…If we won’t shape our future—others will do it for us.1

We are heartened by Livni’s s statement upon her departure today that “The state of Israel is too dear to me to stop working for its interests.” Along with many in Israel, we are eager to learn how she will continue her distinguished service to Israel and how she will continue to contribute to the advancement of a two-state solution.
