J Street condemns Abbas condolence letter to terrorist’s family

November 3, 2014

We condemn the letter sent over the weekend by President Abbas, which extended condolences to the family of Muataz Hijazi, a Palestinian man who was killed by Israeli security forces after shooting right-wing activist Rabbi Yehuda Glick.

The letter, which castigated Israel while praising Hijazi, is deeply concerning and at odds with the Palestinian Authority’s longstanding commitment to nonviolence.

We reaffirm our call to both Abbas and Prime Minister Netanyahu to take immediate steps to calm the volatile situation in Jerusalem before it is too late.
