J Street joins the State of Israel and the world’s Jewish community in mourning the passing of Yitzhak Shamir, Israel’s seventh Prime Minister.
We honor the contributions the indomitable Shamir made to the cause of Jewish independence.
We recognize the significance of Shamir’s role as the leader of Israel who brought the state to the historic Madrid peace talks twenty years ago, Israel’s first summit meeting with the Arab states. He also presided over negotiations with Egypt on the post-peace treaty normalization process.
We send our heartfelt condolences to the Shamir family and to the people of Israel to whom he dedicated his life of loyal service.
