J Street Praises Resolution Backing Kerry’s Efforts

July 30, 2013

J Street today applauded Senator Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) introduction of a resolution commending Secretary Kerry’s efforts to relaunch formal Israeli-Palestinian talks, and pledging the Senate’s support for a sustained US diplomatic initiative to end the conflict.

“This resolution takes Senate support for the two-state solution to a new level at a critical moment,” said J Street Director of Government Affairs Dylan Williams. “The resolution expressly recognizes that it is the only outcome to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that can ensure Israel’s survival as a secure, democratic homeland for the Jewish people, and that the United States remains indispensable to any viable effort to achieve that goal.”

Senator Feinstein, one of the Senate’s most senior members, chairs the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. Joining her as original cosponsors of the resolution are Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near Eastern and South and Central Asian Affairs, and Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM), also a member of the Intelligence committee.

“This congressional resolution will put the United States Senate on record in support of bold US leadership to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict once and for all,” added Williams. “This legislation leaves no doubt that our most senior lawmakers recognize the urgency and necessity of the two-state solution, and stand ready to help overcome the challenges to achieving it.”
