J Street Seriously Concerned about Lebanese Rocket Attack

November 29, 2011

J Street is seriously concerned about the Lebanese rocket attack on northern Israel today, which constitutes a clear violation of the 2006 ceasefire agreement. We stand unequivocally behind Israel’s right to defend its borders, as it did in immediate response this morning.

J Street hopes that both parties will exercise restraint in order to maintain the relative quiet that has prevailed on the Israel-Lebanon border since 2006. We welcome news of UNIFIL’s decision to deploy additional troops and to step up patrols in order to defuse tensions and prevent further escalation.

At a time of rapid upheaval in the region as a whole, the prospect of reopening another front for conflict and confrontation would dramatically undercut the prospects for peace and security for both countries, and for the region.
