WASHINGTON, DC — JStreetPAC, the political fundraising arm of the pro-Israel, pro-peace group J Street, announced today its endorsement of former congresswoman Donna Edwards in her campaign to represent Maryland’s 4th Congressional District. A long-time champion of principled, diplomacy-first American leadership, Edwards was one of JStreetPAC’s very first endorsees during her previous tenure in Congress from 2008-2017.

“During her distinguished career in public service, Donna Edwards has proven herself to be a real champion for democratic values both at home and abroad,” said J Street President Jeremy Ben-Ami. “She was one of the first Members of Congress to stand proudly and publicly with J Street and the pro-Israel, pro-peace movement, promoting more effective American leadership and a better future for both Israelis and Palestinians. Now more than ever, we need her knowledgeable, experienced and principled voice in Congress.”

In 2008, Edwards became the first Black woman elected to represent Maryland in Congress. During her first tenure in the House, Edwards strongly advocated for a two-state solution that would secure self-determination, security and human rights for both the Israeli and Palestinian peoples. She traveled to Israel and the Palestinian Territory on one of the first fact-finding Congressional delegations led by the J Street Education Fund.

Edwards supported the Iran nuclear agreement and President Obama’s diplomatic efforts to prevent Iran from ever developing a nuclear weapon. She also served on the bipartisan Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, reviewing and responding to human rights abuses worldwide.

JStreetPAC is one of the largest and most influential pro-Israel PACs in the country. In the 2020 cycle, it raised over $7 million for 197 endorsed Congressional candidates and $2 million for the Biden-Harris campaign.
