My Neighborhood (2012) – Discussion July 1 at 7pm
Despite being almost a decade old, this film is of the moment as it takes place in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah where Mohammed El Kurd, a Palestinian boy, is growing up. His family loses half of their home to Israeli settlers leading a campaign of court-sanctioned evictions to guarantee Jewish control of the area. This Peabody Award-winning film captures voices rarely heard, of those striving for a shared future in the city. Mohammed and his sister, Muna, were recently detained for protesting evictions in Sheikh Jarrah.
